Cafe – Pearsons Garden Centre, Duns

We dropped in for a quick something to eat and drink on a recent visit to the borders.  We often find cafes a little hard to discover anything worth eating.  However, the cafe at the garden center didn’t let us down.  A good choice and plenty of it!  We did have to wait a little time though, even though the place wasn’t  that busy.  Nevertheless, worth a visit and noting.

Gold star!

Posted in reviews on January 6, 2009 by elveggies

I would like to give a gold star to the Buccleuch Arms Hotel in St Boswells who, during the Borders Food Fayre, did a fabby three course vegetarian feast menu.  I drove all the way there to support it and hopefully the feedback they got from our party will encourage them to keep some of their most popular items from the week’s menu as regulars on their daily menu!! Why not drop in and see?  They have still a long way to go…but a little encouragement goes a long way don’t you think?

A delightful  break between Christmas and New year was just what the doctor ordered.  Fabulous, peaceful location right in the heart of Easedale with instant access to the fells accompanied by glorious organic vegetarian food and wine.  It’s just soooo nice to go visit somewhere and not worry about cross contamination etc.  Why not check out the website yourself if looking for somewhere nice to go for a break?  http://www.lancrigg.co.uk

VITTORIAS, Leith Walk, Edinburgh

6th September 08

Saturday night visit to  busy Vittorias didn’t disappoint.  We shared and thoroughly enjoyed  a lovely cold vegetarian platter which was ample for a taste for 3/4 people but we ate it happily between two of us!!  Main courses were reasonably priced with the stuffed ravioli with mushrooms and spinach which came with a tasty tomato and carrot sauce.  Other half had spaghetti alla aioli which had chilli and fresh herbs in it and it disappeared happily after the roasted veggies!!  The cherry tomato and red onion salad added a touch of freshness.  All in a very  positive experience  but the waiter was unaware of the non vegetarian aspect of parmesan cheese!

REVIEW – The Eastern Eye, Haddington

Well, this is one of  my favourite places to eat in East Lothian….mainly because the food is consistently good and its within walking distance…so I can enjoy a few glasses of wine with my meal and wander off home all content.

Lots of veggie options – as you would expect in an Indian Restaurant but you can also ask them to customise their menu…ie…mixed veg jalfrezi is a favourite of mine but not on their menu!  I think it’s best during the week as the weekends get very busy and it can be hot and noisy and the kitchen is stretched to the limit.   I have had a very nice meal around 10pm on a Saturday when its gone quiet!!.

scotland on sunday….food special…

Posted in general info on August 17, 2008 by elveggies

* sighs deeply * I just finished reading the food special in Scotland on Sunday.  Reviews of Restaurants, Chef’s tasty recipes…and what do veggies get? Tomato soup and warm wild mushroom salad as starters…no main dishes…as per usual! Why is it we are persona non grata in the catering world?  Not even afterthoughts!   I was considering all this and truly I have no proper answer because I also know that if good – not even GREAT – Veggie food is available, many non veggies  order it…and enjoy it!!  I also observe…with all the sky television…and lifestyle programmes, there are NONE scheduled for us veggies.  Should this be something we should campaign for?  Answers on a BLOG please….
